about

This is my first subscriber-only release with a track personally dedicated to my first 4 subscribers.

Thank you so much for supporting me and my music.

I'm going to use these releases to share studies, experiments and works in progress and this first volume focuses on microtonality, feedback and distortion.

Each of these pieces is a variation on the same material but each uses a unique character of distortion and saturation to create harmonic and textural variation.

I love how in the world of distortion 1 + 1 can equal 5 or 157 or 546772819!

When odd and even harmonics stack up, strange and unpredictable things start to happen - much like when different musicians meet up to improvise together.

Alongside this additional harmonic complexity you get a whole host of interesting artifacts thrown in to the bargain: pumping, rhythmic compression, hiss and noise from cascading circuits, bizarre phase-shifting and resonant feedback.

The same type of thing happens when you divide the octave beyond the usual 12 notes - simultaneous close ratio pitches create unusual timbres when combined.

These four pieces use both techniques to create additional material beyond the strictly melodic, harmonic and temporal domains.

Crank it up on your speakers or listen quietly on headphones and enjoy the movement and strange artifacts created by the pitches and harmonics dancing with one another.

Best wishes ~cs

ps - i'm deeply indebted to the work of Eliane Radigue, Pauline Oliveros and Phill Niblock for the inspiration to explore these areas of music making - if you haven't already hear these composers, please rectify that as soon as you can!
